    Hi Kacie,

I saw your display at the NOFA conference and passed your information to the local forager at Whole Foods. If I still had my store I would want your products on our shelves.

    Thank you,

    Doug Peterson

    Hi
You were recommended to me by Iain…we are having a clam bake for Christmas, approximately 16 people. What type of seaweed would you recommend? We live in Florida.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello-
recently started incorpotation seaweed into my diet.
I have tried all the varieties I have found – Wakame, Kelp, Kombu & dulse
The Dulse was purchased at Whole Foods and came from Maine- I no longer have the original bag so I’m not sure what company it was from
I am wondering if you can tell me
when I go out to a Japanese restaurant they have a seeweed that is florescent green
none of the ones i have bought have this appearance
is theres a different type of seeweed or is it a different preperation that causes this

    thanks for any info

Heard your radio interview with Jamie Gwen. I really enjoyed it. I sent your info to my sister in Kauai. She gave me this whole lecture on seaweed being an algae, and blue green algae known as spirulina being an algae contaminated with a toxic substance. Seaweed messing up the balance of my thyroid. Etc, etc.I f you can give me some feed back on this, I would appreciate it.

    Hello Maya,

Seaweed, because it is high in iodine, does effect the thyroid. If you have an under active thyroid the iodine can help to balance things out quite possibly preventing surgery and dependence on synthetic drugs. I have a great book called Seaweed Nature’s Secret to Balancing your metabolism, Fighting disease, and Revitalizing Body and Soul written by Valerie Gennari Cooksley, RN. This book will give you information on seaweeds effect on our hormonal systems, how it is a cancer preventative, strengthens our blood etc. I’ve also read Ryan Drum’s studies on seaweed related to thyroid health. His research shows that adding a natural source of iodine to our diets is a great way to prevent the intake of more toxic forms of radioactive iodine that come from power plants. I suggest doing your own research as I have done and then decide if you want to add seaweed to your diet. It has numerous other health benefits as long as it is harvested from clean waters. I don’t know about blue green algae and spirulina. That is a different type of algae than I harvest. Good Luck!

    Hi, Kacie.

Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. We met at the GreenCAPE http://www.greencape.org/ booth at the Country Gardens Nursery a couple of Sundays ago.

We discussed the commercial uses of the green algae (Codium fragile) that has invaded the waters of Cape Cod. Someone sent me a website http://www.greenguidetampabay.com/qa/is-the-seaweed-i-see-on-the-beach-edible/
    that’s interesting.

This is a great website and your doing neat stuff.

    Best of luck,

    Fred
