eagle hill and experiments
yet another day of packaging seaweed. Not the most glamorous aspect of the job- nonetheless I get through it listening to alternative radio and lots and lots of CDs and as well as mugs of green tea and mate.
After packaging I decided to continue my cooking with seaweed experiments. It seems that lots of veggies was what Larch needed last night as he pulled his chair up to a table of seaweed splendor! Well, veggies he got- an onion soup make from alaria and onions I added carrots for the heck of it- reminiscent of a cozy chicken stock. A healing broth. I also made a stir fry with purple cabbage, cauliflower and lots of nori over soba noodles. It was sweet and salty, flavored with shoyu, mirin, honey and rice vinegar- I left the seaweed out of the salad.
Tonight I experimented wrapping flounder with kelp and baking with potatoes and onions. I think that this recipe could be perfected with the right combination of spices. Stir-fried green beans , garlic and almond slivers accompanied the fish and corn on the cob.

I went over to eagle hill (The Humbolt Institute) to catch the sky before sunset. It was so peaceful up there. The sounds of the birds, the gentle breeze and the smell of the blueberry bushes and pines made me so happy- not to mention the view! I talked to the man who oversees things there- it is a center for biological field study. I like to go there and dream about starting a science camp there for local children, children from away and a mix of local latino children of migrants farm workers and children from mexico, inspired by El Molino the camp I visited in Mexico and Mano and Mano where I used to work in Milbridge. At that camp in mexico a mix of wealthy children from Mexico city and local children as well as children from the US (I think)- learned together about science and local crafts like weaving.
Tomorrow I am going to be a tourist in Bar Harbor with John and Irene! I really need to continue learning to row those little boats- maybe Friday!
